7 Recommendations to the Condo Dweller, for a More Liveable Community
Present-day housing options come in a broad spectrum. Among these options is the condominium, which is a solid choice for people seeking easy commutes, amenities such as the swimming pool and fitness room, and common space made available at the condo for residents to undertake activities.
A condominium also comes with a security system that affords the residents with ease of mind whenever they are not home. But living in a condo means being surrounded by a lot of people and having to deal with many types of characters.
The nature of each individual is unique, yet we must all coexist in a way that is conducive to happiness. Today, PLUS comes with 7 recommendations for the benefit of condo dwellers, as follows:
1. Be considerate when bringing outsiders into common areas, and be gentle when using common amenities.
Each condominium has common areas such as a fitness room, a parking lot and a swimming pool that can be used by every resident. When bringing outsiders to use common areas, a resident should inform the supervising staff and only bring an appropriate number of guests, to avoid hogging up the common amenities and make them unavailable to other residents.
Common amenities should be treated with care so as to avoid damaging these community assets. Each condo project has clear regulations that, if followed by every resident, will contribute towards increased liveability at the community.
2. Avoid washing underwear or shoes inside the public washing machines.
When using the washing machines in the common area, make sure to leave out items such as underwear, shoes or floor mats. These items should not be entered into shared washing machines as doing so may upset any other resident who are using the machine after you.
One other point to note is that washing an excessive amount of clothes at once will take a long time and the washed items will not be as clean; you will also be depriving others from the use of the machine.
3. Do not leave items such as garbage, shoes or shelves in front of your room.
The hallway in front of your room is public space that is also used by your next door neighbours and others living on the same floor. Objects left in front of the room will obstruct your neighbours’ paths and compromise safety in times of emergency.
4. Refrain from cooking food that has pungent smell.
Condo dwellers who take pleasure in cooking would do well to avoid making dishes that have intense odour. The smell will spread to nearby rooms. In order to spare the neighbours from pungent odours, we recommend that residents consider buying from outside whenever there is a desire to eat strong-smelling food.
5. Do not smoke at the balcony.
Smoking is a personal choice, but a smoker needs to be mindful of the health of those around them. Tobacco smell may upset neighbours, while toxic substances from cigarette smoke may accumulate near smoking spots such as on the sofa, curtains and rugs or even inside the air conditioning duct.
Said substances may bring about health consequences in the future, including but not limited to lung cancer and arterial disease. There is no harm in being mindful of others and in smoking only at locations that the condo management has allocated for the purpose.
6. Maintain hygiene and put trash where it belongs.
There is space allocated for garbage disposal at each condo. Most garbage bins at condos come with a lid. Before dumping your garbage, make sure to tie up the garbage bags so as to reduce odour and not spoil the pleasant atmosphere inside the building. Most condominium communities now give importance to waste sorting; when done right, this can enable useful applications such as waste-to-energy plants and fermented fertilizer.
7. Withhold from bothering others with loud noises from dragging furniture, exercising or turning up the volume too high.
Noise is a common nuisance for people who live in a condo. There are a number of activities in addition to dragging furniture, exercising or turning up the volume too high that will create bothersome noise for the neighbours. Consider taking these activities elsewhere, or install sound dampening material if there is a need to frequently carry out a certain activity.
It would be best to relocate noisy in-room exercises to the appropriate common area or the fitness room.
Living among others at a condominium allows one to enjoy the conveniences of life and desirable amenities, but only when everybody observes common courtesies such as:
- Taking good care of the common area
- Not bothering other dwellers with loud noise
- Putting trash where it belongs
- Being considerate when using the common washing machine
- Not leaving objects in the hallway
- Not smoking at the balcony
- Avoiding cooking food with strong odours
Lastly, we suggest that everybody make effort to maintain good relations with neighbours. Start by giving your neighbours a smile, greeting them or engaging them in a conversation when they come across you.
These 7 recommendations for the benefit of condo dwellers are not difficult to implement. Everyone being mindful of their responsibilities and relevant social courtesies, and generally being considerate of others, will result in a harmonious and a more liveable condo community.
