Warm Reflections of Home - Bangkok Spots with Foreign Feels

09 Jul 2018 buy sell rent tips

People travel abroad for innumerable reasons. Despite the fun and excitement that may come with experiencing new or exotic cultures, it is not uncommon to eventually find oneself missing home. Today, of course, it’s easy to make a long distance call, chat on Line, or open up a web browser to connect with friends back home; however, each of these experiences is rooted in technology and lacks an active physical presence. Which is why Plus Property has decided to take a look at a number of places in Bangkok with distinct atmospheres that immediately bring you closer to home.

Like Being in Tokyo

Tokyo is a mix of technological advancement, vibrancy and entertainment, with oodles of culture, trains, food, and unique-to-Japan conveniences. Many of these things can also be found in Phrom Phong, Thong Lo and Ekkamai – places where you will hear Japanese spoken very frequently. Take a look around and you are likely to spot Japanese families, businessmen, and students walking to or from school. These areas provide a variety of convenient amenities, not unlike those found in Tokyo, and Japanese-language signs can be seen in front of restaurants, clubs, pubs and karaoke joints. At nearby Samitivej Hospital, Japanese interpreters are on hand to greet patients. Popular Japanese supermarkets UFM and Fuji are also in the area, as are a number of Japanese discount stores, bookshops, and second-hand stores. Cafés and bakeries abound, and parks are also easily accessible from here. The area even has its own Onsen hot-spring facilities. The close proximity of the BTS Skytrain means that commuting is convenient, with a rush-hour energy that resembles that of downtown Tokyo. Some condominiums in Phrom Phong, Thong Lo and Ekkamai provide the NHK channel and even occasionally an Ofuro tub. All of these elements come together to provide Japanese expats with a sense of familiarity and convenience.

Where Dubai Meets Seoul

For fine fabrics, reasonably priced tailor-made suits, and the alluring aroma of mixed spices, head to the Nana and Asok. Long a bastion of Middle Eastern and South Asian influences, this central business district provides accessibility minus the bank-breaking living costs. Take a stroll to experience the culture of Korea Town or the vibrant cuisine of countless Indian, Pakistani and Persian eateries. Although it is a very lively area, mirroring Dubai’s busy roads and Seoul’s round-the-clock sounds and colours, one can still find peace here while sipping Turkish-style tea at a café or indulging in bingsu at a 24-hour dessert shop.

Just Like Shanghai

China is a country that the whole world now has its eye on, and the transformation of the superpower’s cityscapes and way of life has been fascinating to witness. A prime example of a city that has undergone such a transformation is Shanghai, with its skyscrapers, technological advancements and busy subways. The city is somewhat reminiscent of Bangkok’s Rama 9-Ratchadaphisek area, which is where the Chinese Embassy is located along with several subway stations, residential buildings and innumerable high-rises. Restaurants, malls, cinemas, theatres and schools further define this vibrant locale, making it a familiar comfort to those who are most at home in China.

As If in New York

New York is famous for its free-spirit attitude, individualistic fashion, and non-stop excitement. The Ratchadamri-Chit Lom-Phloen Chit area of Bangkok is a lot like New York in this sense – enveloped by the high-rises of leading multinationals, and home to shopping centres, restaurants, gyms and recreational facilities. Taking a stroll in downtown Lumphini Park, surrounded by skyscrapers and modern infrastructure, may evoke memories of Central Park. At night, rooftop bars provide good vibes and spectacular views of the city that rival those of NYC.
